OUR STORY

VIDEO HOARDERS is an original web-series that follows my journey around Australia tracking down likeminded video tape collectors (affectionately dubbed ‘tape-heads’) to check out their collections and along the way search the wild for that next rare find.

Season One consisted of 12 Episodes and commenced streaming fortnightly via Cult of Monster from August 2017 through March 2018 with a combined 128,000 views across the season.


Shot on a combination of high-definition digital and antiquated tape equipment, VIDEO HOARDERS has its own distinct style that while playing to the aesthetic of the program’s content, it maintains a slick presentation.

OUR GOAL

The first season saw me venture around Victoria, South Australia & Western Australia but with Season Two I want to take my crew with me to visit more collectors across all of Australia.

While feedback on Season One was overwhelmingly positive, the one criticism we received is that viewers want longer episodes and with Season Two we're putting that into action with more extensive coverage and extended runtimes!

ABOUT ME

ROB TAYLOR - Series Host, Creator, Producer & Director

Rob, an SAE graduate and multi-award winning filmmaker, established his production company Phanterror Video in 2014, following the viral success of his documentary AUSTRALIAN ENTITIES: LARUNDEL MENTAL ASLYUM. Rob would go on to release his second documentary, AUSTRALIAN ENTITIES: COMPLEX STUDIOS, and the festival favourite short film THE MINER the following year. In 2016, Rob worked as a visual effects artist on the feature film THE LEGEND OF BEN HALL and would release his own comedy web-series pilot, DEREK MCDERMOTT'S OUTBACK MONSTER ADVENTURES. However it was 2017 that would bring Rob his most challenging and succesful career achievement to date with the launch of VIDEO HOARDERS Season One.

ABOUT MY TEAM

JARRET GAHAN - Cinematographer, Producer & Marketing Manager

A university film graduate, Jarret has been toiling away in visual storytelling for well over a decade, producing award-winning films, television series, web-series, music videos and supplemental features for home entertainment releases. In addition to production, Jarret has worked in entertainment journalism and marketing across a combination of the home entertainment, theatrical and video game industries for the past twenty years. His passion from infancy has been cinema, christened on VHS, his education started early with his first filmic memories being awash of exploding heads, flying spheres and fallen AT-ATs.

BEN HELLWIG - Sound Recordist & Producer
Ben has worked in all aspects of film distribution for over half a decade, from acquisitions to product development, production, design and everything in-between, including curatorial duties on ‘Monster Masters’ a sub-label dedicated to preserving genre classics for collectors who spurn digital and salivate over physical media. Outside of Monster Pictures, Ben is the co-founder of a boutique VHS distribution label, Celluloid Apocalypse, and has worked in both television and home entertainment supplemental feature production.

OUR BUDGET

Our crowdfunding budget has been divided three ways, all of which are hard costs. As this is a passion project I'm not intending to be paid for my work nor are my crew however we need to cover basic costs like our travel, outsourced post-production, Pozible's campaign hosting fees and the production of campaign rewards. 

Here is a breakdown of the aforemented costs:

Travel & Related Expenses $2,750
This is intended to cover car hire, insurance, fuel and on-the-road expenses for myself and two crew members (Jarret Gahan & Ben Hellwig) from Melbourne to Adelaide, Canberra & Sydney.

Outsourced Post-Production $2,250
VIDEO HOARDERS Season One consisted of 12 Episodes that ran for approximately five to six minutes each, with Season Two we're aiming to increase the runtime to eight to ten minutes per episode. As we intend to keep the number of episodes equal to the first season, this will mean a dramatically increased workload and as we want to have the series ready to commence streaming before the year is out, we'll need to call upon some outside assistance to meet the challenge. I will continue to handle the lion's share of post-production with editing, motion graphics and visual effects but to assist with some of the editing and sound design, I'm hoping to enlist some junior post-production team members.

Pozible Fees & Reward Fulfilment $1,100

As the heading suggests this amount is purely to cover the fees involved with running the campaign via Pozible's platform inaddition to the production costs related to the campaign's reward incentives i.e. the VIDEO HOARDERS Season One VHS which will include tape duplication, printing of slicks and packaging.
